SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Mayor Stephanie A. Miner announced today that golf courses have opened for the season. The City of Syracuse has two nine hole, par three courses located at Burnet and Sunnycrest Parks.
“Golf courses are one of the many amenities which make our city an enjoyable place to live,” said Syracuse Mayor Stephanie A. Miner. “I am pleased the courses are open for the season and I encourage our residents, whether an experienced golfer or a novice looking to play their first round, to come out and try our great courses.”
City of Syracuse golf courses, operated by the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Youth Programs, are open from May 1 to October 15. Hours daily are from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., weather permitting. Private and group lessons are available at Burnet Park by appointment. Season passes will be available at the golf courses. Daily Greens fees for nine holes are $6 for adults, $3 for juniors (ages 8 through 17) and seniors (55 plus). For frequent golfers, season passes will be available at the courses.
The City of Syracuse offers a variety of programming at its golf courses. The City has partnered with the First Tee program to provide golf classes to youths between 8 and 16. The Parks Department also sponsors leagues for youth and senior players. Additionally, the Parks Department offers a golf academy in partnership with the local Special Olympics each fall.
Sunnycrest Golf Course is located on Caleb Avenue, off Hickok Avenue in the city’s Eastwood neighborhood. Built in 1928, it provides a challenging Par-3, while offering spectacular views of the city’s skyline. Burnet Park Golf Course is located in the Tipperary Hill section of the city, at Avery and Coleridge Avenues. Built in 1901, it was one of the oldest courses in New York State and has the distinction of being the only course with a “shamrock” bunker, reflective of the neighborhood’s Irish roots.
