Talking Loud and Sayin’ Nothing

 “Like a dull knife
Just ain’t cutting
Just talking loud
Then saying nothing
Just saying nothing
Just saying nothing” – James Brown

Suppose they held an election and nobody came? That’s what just happened, the election is over the votes are all tallied. Nationally, we had the lowest voter turnout since 1942. Prognosticators, pundits and crystal ball gazers predicted the drubbing democrats would take in the mid-term elections.

Alison Lundergan Grimes, “I’m a real Kentucky woman” wouldn’t admit to voting for Obama and yet she tried to get the African American votes for her campaign. With Barack Obama’s popularity at an all-time low democrats choose to run away from his record of accomplishments.

Democrats needed higher than normal turnout of the African-American vote to have any chance at retaining their control over the U.S. Senate. They failed.  Was there any reason for African-Americans to vote in mass numbers, when democratic candidates were running away from President Obama as if he were stricken with Ebola?

According to the United States Election Project, only 36.4 percent of eligible voters cast ballots in the midterm general election, marking the lowest voter turnout in 72 years. Locally, Onondaga County fared better; still only 47% of voters bothered to show up at their polling places this mid-term election cycle. Some candidates ran unopposed, giving voters no choice.

Here are the facts: When Barack Obama took office, businesses were shedding 800,000 Americans a month. Today, our businesses are hiring 200,000 Americans a month. The unemployment rate has come down from a high of 10 percent in 2009, to 5.8 percent today. Businesses have created 10 million new jobs; this is the longest uninterrupted stretch of private sector job creation in our history. Think about it?

More net jobs have been created under President Barack Obama — 5,142,000 as of the August jobs report — than under Presidents’ George H.W. Bush — 2,637,000 — and George W. Bush — 1,282,000 — combined, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Since August over 400,000 additional jobs have been created.

tW1221074907t48c81fdb38800According to Forbes, “However, it is undeniable that President Obama has surpassed the previous president.  Investors have gained a remarkable 220% over the last 5.5 years!  This level of investor growth is unprecedented by any administration, and has proven quite beneficial for everyone… Gains made by investors earlier in the Obama administration have further grown, helping businesses raise capital and improving the nest eggs of almost all Americans.  And laying the foundation for recent and prolonged job growth.”

Over 9 million Americans have affordable health insurance and the United States is experiencing the best job growth in a decade. Numbers on job growth and health insurance coverage would be greater if republicans hadn’t fought President Obama’s agenda.

Republicans even rejected remedies utilized by U.S. Presidents and embraced by representatives of both parties. During every previous recession, the United States has invested in job creation through Infrastructure improvement and targeted jobs program funding.

However, if you were paying close attention during this election cycle democrats weren’t as fast on their feet as republicans. To borrow a phrase democrats were, “half-fast”.  When democrats ran away from “Obama Care” republicans rushed in like First Responders.

Republicans ran full-speed against “Obama Care” and the fact that this recovery isn’t typical not raising all boats as the general economy improves.  In response, democrats ignored the facts and fell into the fold with those running away from the President instead of fighting on principle, which is why republicans won on Election Day. Or as James Brown once said, “Like a dull knife, Just ain’t cutting, Just talking loud, then saying nothing, Just saying nothing.”

“You can’t tell me
How to run my life down
You can’t tell me
How to keep my business sound
You can’t tell me
What I’m doing wrong
When you keep driving and
Singing that same old money song
You can’t tell me
Which way to go
Cause three times seven
And then some more
You can’t tell me, hey”– James Brown
