Syracuse, NY – Dana Balter, Democratic nominee for New York’s 24th Congressional District, received the endorsement of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East Union. 1199SEIU is the largest healthcare union, with over 400,000 members, advocating for quality care and good jobs for all. Balter has made healthcare a priority in her campaign advocating for guaranteed coverage of essential services, protecting those with pre-existing conditions, lowering prescription drug costs, and Medicare-for-All. In contrast, Rep. John Katko voted for the Trump/Ryan tax plan which is causing insurance premiums to skyrocket by as much as 36% in central and western New York.
“The hardworking members of 1199SEIU are proud to endorse Dana Balter for Congress,” said Gabrielle Seay, Political Director 1199SEIU. “We believe Dana will fight to make sure that everyone has access to quality affordable healthcare, and that our communities have the resources necessary to ensure that working families have the tools they need to grow and excel.”
“Earning the support of the hard working people of 1199SEIU is a tremendous honor,” said Dana Balter. “The members of 1199SEIU dedicate their lives to taking care of others. And I know we will be powerful partners in ensuring every person in this country has the healthcare they need.”
This is Balter’s first endorsement by a labor union and it joins a growing list of endorsements including Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Working Families Party, the National Organization for Women (NOW) and over 15 local elected officials. Last week, Balter was added to the DCCC’s Red to Blue Program, and a new poll showed her with a 4% lead over Rep. Katko.
