15 Year Old Stabbing Victim Dies

The Syracuse Police Department has made an arrest in a homicide on Pennsylvania Ave. On Saturday, December 29, 2018 at about 6:09 A.M., the Syracuse Police Department responded to 107 Pennsylvania Ave. for a call of an injury. Upon their arrival, they found a 15 year old female, Janya Thomas who had been stabbed in the abdomen. She was transported to Upstate University Hospital by AMR Ambulance critical condition. She was pronounced dead a short time later.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division commenced an investigation, where numerous people were interviewed, and evidence was collected. During the investigation, it was revealed that Ms. Thomas had gotten into a verbal dispute with a 13 year old male suspect, who stabbed her. That suspect was taken into custody this afternoon and arrested on the charges of Murder 2nd and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th. He will be arraigned this evening. Due to his age, neither his name, nor his photograph will be released.
