2016 New York State Fair Unveils Results of Their 50 Million Dollar Extreme Makeover: Includes New 15 Acre Midway

A reimagined New York State Fairgrounds will be seen as the grandstand and 100 year old track are gone.

Plan focuses on enhancing the facility; 50 million dollars have been allocated toward this project.

New Yorkers’ will get their first glimpse of the re-imagined Fairgrounds on August 25 as the 2016 edition of the New York State Fair begins its annual run. The 375-acre New York State Fairgrounds is undergoing the most significant transformation since opening in 1890.

nysfair_1900 GateUpon approaching the main gate it is apparent that this is not your father’s New York State Fairgrounds.  The first thing you see is the dramatic new Main Gate— a crescent shape with arches reminiscent of the carriage gate that welcomed fairgoers in 1900. The original State Fair arched carriage gate inspired the design of the new Main Gate. The coliseum style main gate harkens back to the days when the fair had a massive entry, which was periodically replaced with more contemporary designs, several times during the fairs long history.

Features include a new 13-acre site, grid layout for 315 sites, camera and blue light systems, and online reservations.

Immediately upon the release of plans to invest millions in the facility AKA, The Empire Expo Center skeptics pounced, wondering why “fix” what’s not broken.  However, with tourism being one of our growing employment sectors, an enhanced trailer/mobile home site is a year round draw to the fairgrounds that may call for the trailer facility to be utilized.

The new 15 acre Midway will offer at least 70 rides, many new to the Fair, the newly reimagined area will have wider and safer aisles as well as more covered seating areas.

“The Midway’s new asphalt pad is the size of over 10 football fields with more room and better layout for rides and attractions. Improvements include a Kiddieland area, phone charging stations, shaded rest areas, and underground electric/water/sewer for vendors.”

One of the largest travelling rollercoasters in the country will be introduced to the New York State Fair, along with a new Ferris Wheel, and thrill rides enhanced with LED lighting.
