50th Anniversary Edition of the Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival to be Presented This Weekend in Downtown Syracuse

Friday, July 23: 10 am – 6 pm; Saturday & Sunday, July 24 & July 25: 10 am – 5 pm

Syracuse, NY – This weekend, the AmeriCU Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival will celebrate its 50th Anniversary in Downtown Syracuse, bringing artists, craftspeople, strolling musicians and performers and summer refreshments to the park known as Columbus Circle, and several blocks throughout the  Cathedral Square neighborhood. Presented by the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc. and AmeriCU Credit Union, the Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival is the first festival to be held in Downtown Syracuse since 2019.

The three-day, free, family-friendly festival kicks off Friday, July 23 and continues through Sunday, July 25. Headquartered at the intersection of East Onondaga, East Jefferson and Montgomery Streets, visitors are encouraged to stop by the Information Booth, which will be positioned in front of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (map). Here, they will find a festival map (also posted at the Downtown Committee’s website), a program featuring a list of all of the artists and their works on-site, and a 50th Anniversary Commemorative Poster, available for purchase for $10.

Throughout the weekend, attendees will be able to shop a variety of contemporary arts and crafts, including ceramics, sculptures, photography, painting, woodwork, jewelry, clothing and much more. The Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival stars 130 of the nation’s most talented artists, representing 23 states. Visitors may preview pieces that will be available, and learn more about the artists, by clicking here.  An entertainment schedule and list of available refreshments is also provided there.

The AmeriCU Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival is the longest-running festival in Downtown Syracuse. It is recognized as the most prestigious shows of its kind in Central New York, and has earned national accolades several times over its history, most recently in 2020 when Sunshine Artist Magazine recognized the festival as being #84 on its list of 200 Best Shows in the country. This honor is especially meaningful because it comes from participating artists. They vote for their favorite shows based on variety of factors including potential revenue, amenities, attendance, management, overall quality and hospitality.

“Just as the artists look forward to participating in the Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival, many families do too. We hear from many people who attend the festival that this is one of their favorite summer traditions, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring it back to enjoy as we welcome the return of festivals,” said Merike Treier, executive director of the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc. “Over the weekend, visitors can also look forward to the start of the Salt City Summerfest, led by CNY Jazz, which will bring pop-up entertainment in the form of musicians, dancers and actors throughout downtown and on  Sunday, visitors can experience a monthly ‘Shop Small Sunday’ event hosted at Salt City Market. We hope that while people shop for artwork and enjoy the festive atmosphere, that they make a day out of being in the center of our community. This weekend is the perfect time to try a new restaurant, return to a favorite shop or museum, and get out and explore.”

The Downtown Committee is grateful for the support of AmeriCU Credit Union, which has supported the Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival for many years.

“Few events showcase the vibrancy of our community and what it has to offer from an arts and culture perspective than the signature AmeriCU Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival, and we are so excited to be able to celebrate the milestone 50th Anniversary in person this summer,” said Ronald Belle, President & CEO at AmeriCU. “At AmeriCU, we are thrilled to present one of the most popular events of the year, and the first major festival to return to Downtown Syracuse following this unprecedented year. We can’t wait to celebrate all that the center of our city has to offer!”

The AmeriCU Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival also receives support from Onondaga County, the City of Syracuse, Leaf Filter, Cutco, Renewal by Andersen and Wegmans.
