A Statement from Superintendent Sharon L. Contreras: the passing of former Commissioner Nancy McCarty

“The Syracuse City School District lost a compassionate and staunch advocate for the children of this community with the passing of former Commissioner Nancy McCarty.

Commissioner McCarty served the families, students and staff of this district faithfully for eight years.  She was involved in numerous committees and believed firmly in the importance of Pre-K for all students.

She was immensely proud to have been a graduate of the SCSD and even more proud of her two daughters who graduated from the district as well.  This is a tremendous loss to all of us in the Syracuse community.”
