Announcement of Job Opening: Community Organizer

The Alliance of Communities Transforming Syracuse [ACTS] seeks dynamic person to be Community Organizer as a change agent for social justice.

ACTS is an interfaith network of mission-oriented congregations and organizations whose voices together strive for a more just and fair community. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for all in Onondaga County, especially those disadvantaged by poverty and discriminated against by race.

Candidates for this part time position should have the knowledge and skills to deal with complex social systems including religious communities and governmental structures.  He or she will have

  • Capabilities of organizing multiple entities to produce effective outcomes
  • Commitment to social justice advocacy among a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal relations experience and effective group process abilities that enable community leaders to achieve results
  • Office management skills including writing and data analysis
  • Flexibility in working hours at 60% FTE employment

Candidates for Community Organizer should have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in community organizing.  Extensive knowledge in the fields of government, public education, criminal justice, transportation, housing, and/or economic development is a plus.
