Say they’re prepared to back Common Councilmember Jean Kessner in primary against Valesky
SYRACUSE, NY – Assemblymember Sam Roberts, Ruth Heller of 1119 SEIU, Bruce Carter of CNY Pride, and other community leaders will announce Tuesday that they’ll endorse Jean Kessner in a primary challenge against Sen. Dave Valesky if Valesky doesn’t reunite with the State Senate Democratic Conference.
The announcement follows the close of a legislative session in which Dave Valesky and the Independent Democrats allowed Republicans time and again to veto consideration of common sense legislation that would benefit working families in Syracuse.
From an increase to New York’s inadequate $8 an hour minimum wage, to the DREAM Act, Women’s Equality Act and a ban on hydrofracking, the Republican-IDC coalition’s failure to act is hurting the people of Syracuse.
Kessner – a life- long community advocate – is prepared to lead the fight to return the State Senate majority to Democrats and end the Republicans’ blockade of historic legislation that would transform the lives of tens of thousands of residents in the 53rd Senate District.
