Busy Sunday on Merriman Ave. as Syracuse Police respond to 3 shot; and Weapon related Arrest

On Sunday December 8, at around 12:09 PM, Officers responded to the 100 block of Merriman Ave. for a shooting with injuries type call.

Upon arrival, Officers discovered three male victims, 15, 31, and 23 with gunshot wounds. All the injuries appear non life-threatening and the victims were transported to area hospitals.

Police Arrest Man with loaded Handgun on Merriman Ave.

Late afternoon, Sunday, December 8th, 2019, at around 3:39 P.M., Officers responded to the 100 block of Merriman Ave. for a suspicious person with a weapon type call.

Information was developed that a male, Laiteek Johnson, 22, was armed with a handgun and was in a pickup truck that had other occupants inside.

When Officers arrived, they encountered the pickup truck with several occupants. A foot chase ensued with Johnson, who was in the vehicle. Officers were able to catch Johnson and detain him. In the immediate area, Officers found the handgun that Johnson possessed, which he had discarded during the foot chase. The gun was found to be loaded.

At around the same time as the foot chase, the vehicle fled Officers, and a pursuit ensued. The chase went for several blocks where it ultimately ended at Lydell St. / Grand Ave. The driver of that vehicle, Teemonji Walker, male, 23 was arrested for Unlawfully fleeing a police officer in the third degree and Criminal possession of marihuana after several ounces of the drug were found inside.

Johnson was ultimately arrested and charged with Criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and Criminal possession of a firearm.  Both were lodged at the Justice Center.​
