City Launches Survey Seeking Public Input as Part of a Broadband Implementation Study

Survey, Conducted by City’s Consultant Magellan Advisors, Will Compile Data From the Public As Part of a Broadband Implementation Study

Miner: As We Continue to Study our Options for Bringing Affordable, Efficient, High-Speed Internet Access to The City of Syracuse, It is Important that the Voice of the Community is Heard

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Mayor Stephanie A. Miner announced today that the City of Syracuse has launched a series of surveys targeted to residents and business owners to gather input as the City continues to study options for improving internet access.

“These surveys will better inform our understanding of the broadband infrastructure needs facing the City of Syracuse,” said Syracuse Mayor Stephanie A. Miner. “It is important that, as we continue to study our options for bringing affordable, efficient, high-speed internet access to the citizens and businesses of the City of Syracuse, the voice of the community is heard.”Connecting the community

These surveys, targeted separately to residents and businesses will be used to inform the City’s Broadband Implementation Study. They will be shared on the City’s social media pages and available on the City website, www.syrgov.net/broadband. Additionally, the surveys have been emailed to members of Tomorrow’s Neighborhoods Today (TNT) groups throughout the City of Syracuse.

The surveys are designed to assist in better understanding what broadband services are currently available, what services are most needed, and how they can be priced competitively. The study’s goal is to provide guidance to the City and its partners while they examine the future internet needs of the city.

Mayor Miner has made studying new options for municipal broadband a priority of her administration. Earlier this year, the City of Syracuse, utilizing funding from the Syracuse Industrial Development Agency (SIDA), selected Magellan Advisors to develop a Broadband Tactical Plan. Magellan is working with the City and the community to determine the feasibility of bringing Fiber to the premises (FTTP) for businesses and residents throughout the City of Syracuse. This firm is compiling the data from this survey.
