City of Syracuse Snow Safety Summit: Open house event to collect community input about city’s snow removal process

Fire Prevention Week will close out with an Open House Community Event at Fire Station 18, 3801 Midland Ave, on Saturday, October 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be fire and life safety stations for children to participate in. There will be Stop, Drop, & Roll as well as Stay Low & Go activities. The Syracuse Fire Department will provide and install smoke detectors throughout the year in one and two-family homes. Smoke alarms that are installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries. The Syracuse/Onondaga County NAACP 2024 is hosting a series of Candidates Forums the second will be held at Syracuse Community Connections 401 South Ave. October 18, 2024, 6 – 8pm

Come out and help us beautify our community by planting trees at Schiller Park! Meet at the parking lot next to the pool. Registration begins at 10:00 AM, and planting begins at 10:30 AM. Come help us restore local forest cover under the canopy of 150 year old White Oak trees. Rain or shine. Open to all ages! Please bring water, sturdy footwear and snacks if desired. Prepare to get dirty. Proper tree planting will be demonstrated. Lunch will be provided at 1:00 PM!

FOCUS Greater Syracuse, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to fostering community engagement, announces its upcoming FOCUS Forum. The forum will take place on Friday, October 25, from 12:05 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. via Zoom. Registration is free and open to the public. The October FOCUS Forum is designed to offer insights into the key priorities and strategies of local funders. Prominent figures from leading institutions such as the Allyn Family Foundation, United Way of Central New York, the Gifford Foundation, and the Central New York Community Foundation will come together to share their wealth of knowledge and participate in an engaging and enlightening conversation. The forum will feature an expert panel of speakers including; Nancy Eaton the President of United Way of Central New York, Meg O’Connell the Executive Director of the Allyn Family Foundation, Frank M. Ridzi, PhD the Vice President of Community Investment of the Central New York Community Foundation, and Sheena Solomon the Executive Director of The Gifford Foundation.
