Donald Trump’s statements in Helsinki at his press event with Vladamir Putin were of historic concern. From attacks on the institutions that exist to hold our leaders to account- the press and law enforcement- to rampant conflicts of interest, ethics violations and the flagrant abuse of government offices for personal gain, the degradation and corruption of the American government by this President, his associates and many in his party has reached a profound new low. We must urgently rise up to defend our democratic system. That’s why local activists will come together once more on Wednesday, July 18th to participate in a national vigil to Confront Corruption: Demand Democracy.
Democracy is how we hold wrongdoers accountable and create a government that reflects our values of inclusivity, justice and decency. But we are on a dangerous trajectory. Our leaders actively conspire to avoid accountability for injustices such as separating families, detaining children, attacking the rule of law, putting donors ahead of voters and shaping voting districts to manipulate outcomes.
Local organizers, featuring Congressional candidate Dana Balter, will convene the Syracuse, NY vigil here:
