County Executive Joanne M. Mahoney and Lisa D. Alford, Commissioner of Onondaga County’s Department of Aging and Youth, are pleased to announce a series of outreach events designed to assist seniors in Onondaga County with applying for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). HEAP is a program that helps individuals meet energy expenses with a one-time payment to their utility company or fuel vendor. To be eligible for HEAP assistance, a one-person household can receive monthly income of up to $2,030.00 and a 2-person household can receive up to $2,654.00 per month.
The Onondaga County Department of Aging and Youth will be holding three community outreach sessions at local malls where seniors age 60 or older can apply on the spot for HEAP benefits. Assistance will be offered:
At the Carousel Mall on November 9th from 8:30 – 2pm
At the Great Northern Mall on November 10th from 8:30- 2pm
And at Shoppingtown Mall on November 13th from 9 – 2pm
Seniors age 60 or older, persons receiving Code A SSI, or senior households facing a pending disconnection of services or low fuel levels can request an application and/or get more information by contacting the Onondaga County Department of Aging and Youth at 435-2362. The 2009-2010 HEAP season extends from November 2nd until available funds are exhausted.
