Crews Quickly Extinguish Fire in Vacant Structure on Syracuse’s North Side

Syracuse, N.Y. – At 3:57 P.M. crews were called to 638 East Division Street, between Lodi Street and Park Street, for a reported fire in a vacant structure.  Neighbors had called 911 after noticing smoke issuing from the single-story house.

The house was in very poor condition, and crews spent several minutes removing boards from the windows and doors in an effort to ensure the safety of the firefighters working inside.

The structure was immediately searched, and firefighters were able to verify that no one was trapped inside.  The bulk of the fire was extinguished in less than ten minutes.  Because of the quick knockdown, the fire was contained to the building of origin and neighboring homes were not damaged.

The Syracuse Police Department, AMR, and National Grid also responded to the scene.  No injuries were reported.  Members of the Fire Investigation Bureau are currently working to determine the cause of the fire.
