Deputies find Illegal Handgun after Traffic Stop in the area of Turtle Street and Grant Boulevard

City of Syracuse, New York – The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office reports that two people have been charged with possessing illegal drugs and a handgun following a traffic stop yesterday evening.

On Friday, August 28th, at approximately 7:35 P.M., Deputies assigned to the Gun Involved Violence Elimination unit (GIVE), initiated a traffic stop in the area of Turtle Street and Grant Boulevard on a vehicle that had committed a traffic infraction. As deputies spoke with the driver and passenger, they could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Subsequent search of the vehicle revealed 20 grams of marijuana and loaded defaced 9mm handgun. As a result, the driver Amber Thrall and passenger Justice Wagner were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana in the 2nd degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree (defaced weapon). Thrall was also issued a traffic ticket for failing to use turn signal when turning.

Both are being held in the Justice Center and are expected to be arraigned sometime today.
