Deputies Investigate Fatal Accident on Route 80

Town of Tully, New York – The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a fatal accident that occurred this afternoon on Route 80 in the Town of Tully which involved a construction vehicle.   This afternoon at approximately 1:27 p.m., Sheriff’s Deputies along with rescue personal responded to the intersection of Route 80 and Woodmancy Road for a reported accident involving a construction vehicle.

Deputies investigating the accident report that an employee from Suit Kote Corporation was operating a 2005 Western Star dump truck on Route 80 in a construction zone when driver was backing up and struck another employee who was directing traffic. The employee directing traffic sustained a traumatic injury and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Route 80 between Vesper and Long Road was closed while members of the Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team processed the scene. The road as since reopened.

The investigation is ongoing at this time and the names of the employee/victim will be released at a later time.
