Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc. Introduces New Holiday BINGO Contest to Promote Positivity and Support Small Business Owners; Participants May Win Prizes for Participating Now – Saturday, January 2

Syracuse, NY – As celebrating this holiday season will look different for many of us this year, the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc. invites the community to make Downtown part of their in-person and virtual celebrations by participating in the first-of-its kind Holiday BINGO Contest. The BINGO Board features 25 squares – each offers a suggestion to enjoy Downtown Syracuse holiday experiences and support local businesses this season. Suggestions feature in-person and virtual activities to appeal to various comfort levels and purchases are not required to win.

How to Play: The object of the game is to get five squares in a row, or “BINGO.” To play the game, participants must first obtain a picture of the BINGO board from the Downtown Committee’s website, DowntownSyracuse.com. Then, the goal becomes to get five squares in a row – across, vertical, or diagonal. To earn BINGO, participants are asked to upload five photos of their activities in action to a Facebook, Twitter or Instagram post and tag the Downtown Committee (@DowntownSyracuse on Facebook, @DowntownSYR on Twitter and @DowntownSyracuse on Instagram), to fill out one row. Each BINGO earns an entry into a drawing to win one of many prizes donated by Downtown Syracuse businesses. The prizes are valued between $10 and $50. Participants may earn an extra entry by sending a note to mail@DowntownSyracuse.com, writing which businesses they visited and supported.

The BINGO Board may be viewed by clicking here.

“Our team introduced Holiday BINGO to bring holiday cheer, not only to the community, but to local businesses too,” said Merike Treier, executive director of the Downtown Committee. “Many people have reached out to us asking for ideas about how they can show their support for small business owners during these challenging times. And, our business owners appreciate the positive vibes. The suggested activities were created to appeal to varying levels of comfort and means, and to highlight a variety of activities to help get into the holiday spirit. We look forward to seeing the pictures that are posted!”

Winners will be drawn on Monday, January 4.

The Downtown Committee would also like to remind community members that there is still time to vote in the Window Wonderland Contest – one of the activities provided in the BINGO contest. A total of 37 Downtown Syracuse businesses have decorated their windows in festive, holiday and/or winter scenes. A list of all businesses and a Walking Tour map is provided here, as well as in  the accompanying email. The Window Wonderland Contest provides the perfect, outdoor socially-distant activity to visit with family and friends this season, and if folks prefer to browse from the comfort of their homes, photos are also provided at this voting link.

The Downtown Committee continues to promote Downtown Syracuse as a destination to Skate, Shop, Taste and Discover this season – in-person, curbside and online. All of these holiday experiences – as well as opportunities to give back to support those in need – are highlighted in the weekly newsletter, sent out every Monday during the holiday season.
