“Drop the M.I.C. (Military Industrial Complex)” Syracuse Peace Council 83rd Birthday Dinner with Brittany DeBarros, Army Reserve Captain


The Syracuse Peace Council’s 83rd Birthday Dinner is set for Saturday, March 30 at University United Methodist Church, 324 University Ave, Syracuse NY 13210. Doors open at 5:30 PM with dinner served promptly at 6:00 pm. This year’s event features homemade lasagna options including vegetarian, vegan/gluten free, and beef, followed by a talk by organizer and Army Reserve Captain Brittany DeBarros at 7:30 PM.

The cost for the dinner is $10-60 sliding scale (more if you can, less if you can’t), $30 suggested donation, per person. Reservations are requested by Friday, March 29, and can be made online at www.peacecouncil.net or by calling (315)472-5478. Walk-ins are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis. The venue is wheelchair accessible and there will be ASL interpretation during the speaking portion of the evening.

Brittany is Co-Director of the “Drop the M.I.C.” campaign organized by About Face: Vets Against the War. She has a diverse mix of business, military and non-profit leadership experiences that cemented her deep passion and commitment to intersectional movement building work across identities. She deployed to Afghanistan for a year in 2012 and has worked on economic and racial liberation issues in various capacities since she returned. She is particularly passionate about leveraging her experience as a Psychological Operations Officer to center narrative and behavior change in campaign strategy. She is also involved with the New York State Poor People’s Campaign, linking militarism to racism, poverty, and environmental destruction.
