Syracuse, N.Y. – At 4:51 am this morning, Syracuse Firefighters battled a fire at 100 Gifford Parkway, between Demong Drive and Claire Road. Firefighters arrived on scene within minutes to find heavy black smoke throughout the structure and a large volume of fire on the 1st floor of the home. Smoke detectors alerted and enabled the occupant to escape the rapidly progressing blaze.
Firefighters reported high levels of heat inside of the home while battling the fire. Searches of the home were conducted for additional occupants. All searches were negative. It took firefighters 25 minutes to extinguish the bulk of the fire and another 35 minutes to extinguishing remaining hot spots of fire and to ventilate the entire structure. The occupant of the home was evaluated on scene by firefighters and AMR. The origin and cause of this fire is under investigation by Syracuse Fire Investigators.
