Eight Local Grassroots Organizations Join Forces for Candidate Debates

A unique coalition of eight local grassroots organizations has come together to sponsor a series of candidate debates in October. The debates will be held on consecutive Monday evenings, starting October 16, and will take place at the Southwest Community Center (401 South Avenue). Each evening will feature a different set of candidates (see schedule below) and will give voters a chance to compare the candidates’ plans, policies and ideas regarding the future of Syracuse.

As important as these debates are, the collaboration and cooperation of the eight sponsoring organizations is just as much a part of the overall story. These organizations have worked to find common values and concerns, related to both the short term and long term wellbeing of Syracuse, its people and its public institutions. These values and concerns will be at the forefront of each debate.

Along with questions from the sponsoring organizations, members of the public will be able to submit their own questions.

The debates are as follows:

October 16  (7 – 9 pm):
Candidates for Common Council

October 23  (6:30 – 8:30 pm):
Candidates for Mayor

October 30  (6:30 – 8:30 pm):
Candidates for Syracuse School Board and for City Court Judge

The debates are sponsored by:

  • Alliance of Communities Transforming Syracuse (ACTS)
  • CNY Solidarity Coalition
  • Greater Syracuse HOPE
  • League of Women Voters
  • National Action Network (NAN), Syracuse Chapter
