In anticipation of National Safety Month in June, the Syracuse Housing Authority (SHA) is presenting a special program on fitness and self-defense for seniors and people with special needs. The program, which is part of SHA’s popular “Lunch ‘n’ Learn” series, will be led by Sensei Jason Nolan, owner and chief instructor of Impact Martial Arts and & Fitness in DeWitt, N.Y.

The event will take place from Noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Ross Towers (Syracuse Housing Authority) 710-712 Lodi St., Syracuse.SHA logo

The sixth-degree black belt will discuss and demonstrate basic self-defense techniques, awareness skills, and the “survivor” mindset. Studies show that seniors and people with special needs are more prone to assaults (i.e., physical, verbal, and sexual) than the rest of the population.
