Syracuse, N.Y. – Syracuse Firefighters battle a wind driven fire with 36 mph wind gusts reported in the area. At approximately 2:36 p.m. the Syracuse Fire Department was alerted to a report of a house fire at 106 Dudley Street. Engine 3, (808 Bellevue Avenue) was on the scene first. The actual address was 147 Fitch Street. Crews reported finding a large 2 ½ story wood frame, multi family home with heavy fire on the second floor.
Due to rapidly deteriorating fire conditions, Car 2 ordered an exterior attack. Power lines to the building burned away and created a hazard in the front yard. Multiple attack lines were used to bring the blaze under control. Crews made entry after the bulk of the fire was knocked down to continue extinguishment and search for any potential victims. Search crews reported that no victims were located and the fire was extinguished. The building was vacant at the time of the fire.
Fire Investigators report that the origin and cause are under investigation. National Grid, AMR and Syracuse Police were also on the scene. One firefighter suffered minor injuries. Units were back in service by 4:14 p.m.
