Syracuse, N.Y. – At 3:45 P.M. the Onondaga County 911 Center began receiving multiple calls about a building fire at 147 Oak Street, between Manilla Street and Hawley Avenue. The first fire department units were on scene in just 3 minutes, and reported heavy smoke and fire on the second floor. The building, which had previously contained a business on the first floor with apartments above, was unoccupied at the time.
Crews encountered very high heat and zero visibility while inside, and the fire quickly spread from the second floor to the attic. Additional firefighters had to be called to the scene due to the size of the building and the intensity of the flames. It took over 40 minutes to fully extinguish the blaze. No injuries were reported. AMR, National Grid, and the Syracuse Police Department also responded to the scene. Members of the Fire Investigation Bureau are currently working to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
