Syracuse, N.Y. – Syracuse Firefighters battle an attic fire in sub-freezing temperatures. At approximately 4:05 a.m. fire crews were dispatched to 333 Fitch Street. Engine Co. 5 and Truck 3 (110 N. Geddes Street) were on the scene by 4:09 a.m. They reported smoke coming from the attic of the 2 ½ story wood framed, two-family dwelling and stretched a hose line inside. These first arriving firefighters found a fire in the attic.
As additional firefighters arrived, a systematic search for potential victims was performed and additional hose lines were stretched. The fire was extinguished, and no victims were located. The occupants were able to escape the blaze prior to the fire departments arrival. There were working smoke detectors in the home.
Fire Investigators have determined the origin to be in the attic, the cause is under investigation. The occupants are being assisted by the Red Cross. AMR, National Grid and the Syracuse Police were also on the scene. There were no reported injuries. Firefighters were on the scene until 6:57 a.m.
