Nourishing Tomorrow’s Leaders course prepares diverse, effective board members
(Syracuse, NY) The Gifford Foundation and their community partners have scheduled a second Nourishing Tomorrow’s Leaders training, an 8-week course in board training and leadership that will start April 14th. The application is available through the Gifford Foundation website:
The classes cover all aspects of being a board member while at the same time providing leadership and coping skills. Subjects include ABC’s of Being a Board Member, How Boards Add Value, Planting a Tree of Diversity, Conflict Resolution, Group Dynamics and more. Classes for the course are held on
Tuesday evenings from 5:30-8:00 pm and cost $50 (with available scholarships). Dinner and all materials are included.
Nourishing Tomorrow’s Leaders was developed in 2014 through a partnership of the Gifford Foundation, the Central New York Community Foundation, Leadership Greater Syracuse, the Human Services Leadership Council and community leaders. Designed to address the need for more in-depth board training that was inclusive of a diverse community and an interest in increasing the pool of effective board members, the program graduated 28 individuals last November. “I learned so much and I am excited to begin deciding where I should dedicate my time to give back to the community,” states one of these graduates. Participants appreciated the honest discussions, the detailed information about board responsibilities, and clear deliberate effort to insure that not only participants but also presenters reflected the varied make-up of our community.
“It is important to not only educate but to inspire those who participate and make sure that we are provide quality training to individuals in the community,” states Sheena Solomon of the Gifford Foundation. “As the demographics of Central New York continue to evolve it is important to invest in the future leadership of our community.”
