Syracuse, N.Y. – At 9:55 A.M. firefighters were called to 104 Fountain Street, between Gertrude Street and Hawley Avenue, for a house fire. The first units were on scene in under three minutes and observed smoke from a second-floor window. Crews immediately forced entry to the single-family home and encountered fire on the second floor.
Firefighters searched the home for any trapped occupants and discovered that no one was inside at the time. It took approximately 20 minutes to fully extinguish the blaze. No injuries were reported. Although the damage to the structure was kept to a minimum, the 5 occupants of the house will be temporarily displaced. The American Red Cross has offered to assist the family with shelter and other needs.
A passerby who noticed smoke coming from the house called 911. National Grid, the Syracuse Police Department, and AMR also responded to the incident. Members of the Fire Investigation Bureau are currently working to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
