In Memoriam: Dr. Renate (Rennie) Simson, Syracuse University Department of African American Studies

It is with deep sadness to report The Community Folk Art Center has announced that Dr. Renate (Rennie) Simson, a member of the faculty of the Syracuse University Department of African American Studies, has passed away.

Professor Simson published a book, along with more than 30 articles and chapters and gave more than 50 presentations in her areas of interest: 19th Century African American Literature and the inequalities of New York State public schools during her long career.

A former chair of the department of African American Studies, her dedication to the department and support of Community Folk Art Center was truly appreciated. She will be deeply missed.
