Local Union #195 Roofers Recruit Apprentices

CICERO, NY (04/04/2010)(readMedia)– The Roofers Joint Apprenticeship Committee of Syracuse, Local Union #195, will conduct a recruitment from April 5, 2010 through April 4, 2011 for ten roofer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.
Applications will be available at Local Union #195, 6200 State Route 31, Cicero, NY, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays of each week, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

* Must be at least 18 years old.

* Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).

* Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by a physician’s examination at the committee’s expense after acceptance into the program, and signing affidavit of physical fitness.

* Must pass alcohol and substance abuse test at the time of appointment.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.

Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
