SYRACUSE, N.Y. — City Auditor Martin Masterpole, a Democratic candidate for Mayor of Syracuse, released the following statement after President Trump announced his decision to end protections for DREAMers through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
“I am simply disappointed by President Trump’s actions today. His decision will impact 800,000 hardworking young people nationwide, including 40,000 New Yorkers. The contributions of DREAMers are vital to our economy, and this will have a major economic impact. The decision only serves to hurt our communities
which are strengthened by diversity.
“Ending DACA is not in keeping with the American Dream, where young people believe that if they work hard enough, they can succeed in life no matter what their background is. As Mayor, I will be a strong voice for the immigrants in our community.”
