Miner to Formally Install New Parks Commissioner, Lazarus U. Sims in City Hall Ceremony

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Mayor Stephanie A. Miner will formally install Lazarus U. Sims as the Commissioner of Parks, Recreation, and Youth Programs in a ceremony at City Hall, Tuesday, May 19 at 4:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place in the Mayor’s Office Lobby of City Hall.

Miner appointed Sims to lead the Department at the end of March. Lazarus Sims previously served as a support specialist for the Promise Zone program at the McKinley-Brighton Elementary School. He had been as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Binghamton University. He served as Director of Player Development for the Syracuse University men’s basketball team from 2007 through 2011. Sims is a 1996 graduate of Syracuse University where he was the starting point guard on the 1996 national championship runner up team. He is also an alumnus of Henninger High School.
