New Public Art Installation Downtown

Syracuse NY- Mayor Matthew J. Driscoll will join with members of the Public Art Commission and the Downtown Planning Council of Tomorrow’s Neighborhood’s Today (TNT) to install artwork entitled, 01101, created by local artist, Tash Taskale on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the downtown pocket park located on the corner of S. Warren and E. Fayette Streets.

This installation is the first project to be funded through the Community-Based Public Art Project, a challenge-grant initiative of the Syracuse Public Art Commission, for the installation of public art in the City of Syracuse. Working with the City of Syracuse Public Art Coordinator, Kate Auwaerter, the Downtown Planning Council of TNT commissioned the piece through a competitive selection process.

01101, is a galvanized steel globe, measuring 48″ in diameter and weighing a half a ton. It will be located in the northwest corner of the park.
