New York State Democratic Committee “Rep. Tenney Owes Apology to Constituents and Those Affected by Gun Violence”

New York – This week, in the wake of the mass shooting at Florida’s Stoneman Douglas High School – which has prompted a national outcry for action – New York Rep. Claudia Tenney instead drew widespread attention for baselessly claiming that “so many” mass murderers “end up being Democrats.”

The following statement is from Geoff Berman, Executive Director of the New York State Democratic Committee:

“We knew Rep. Tenney was in the back pocket of the NRA. What we didn’t know was her willingness to embarrass herself in order to placate one of her biggest political donors.

Teenagers who survived unspeakable trauma and the loss of their friends and loved ones have shown tremendous dignity and courage since the shooting. By comparison, Rep. Tenney has adopted extreme-right talking points and added fuel to the fire by engaging in shocking divisiveness and conspiracy theories. She owes her constituents an immediate and unequivocal apology. She also owes an apology to the parents and families of the children who died in the Florida shooting tragedy, and all those around the country who’ve lost loved ones to senseless acts of gun violence.”
