After graduating from Onondaga Community College earlier in the day, 3 graduates were honored with a reception at Dr. Saundra Barnett-Reyes office in downtown Syracuse. Friends and family gathered for a celebration that included mandatory introductions from every guest.
As children played and greetings exchanged, there was this sense of a warm family gathering. A variety of food was served; including everything from the traditional graduation cake to goat, chicken wings and culturally inspired dishes, giving this graduation party a true international flavor.
Shaylene Weigela, received high honors graduated Cum Laude in Nursing. OCC graduates celebrating with Ms. Weigla include; Jennifer Hirela, Nursing and Paddy Awuir, Social Work.
The newly minted graduates are from China and Africa, as the Onondaga Hill college attracts students originating from all over the world. Not only did these students attend college, they also excelled. Ms. Weigla, a graduate with honors has already received her first assignment, as a Nurse in a local hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.
