Syracuse, New York- The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office reports that Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating the death of an Onondaga County Justice Center inmate.
On Saturday evening at approximately 10:49 pm, a sheriff’s deputy conducting a cell check inside the housing unit of the Justice Center discovered an unconscious/unresponsive male inmate. The deputy immediately called for assistance and began providing emergency medical care to the inmate. Justice Center medical staff, along with emergency personnel with AMR Ambulance also responded and attempted to resuscitate the inmate but were unsuccessful and the inmate was pronounced dead.
The Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the inmate’s death and have notified the New York State Commission of Correction who will also review the incident. The identity of the inmate is being withheld at this time pending next of kin notifications. The cause and manner of death is pending an autopsy by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
