Onondaga County Issues Travel Advisory Potential for Hazardous Road Conditions

County Executive Joanie Mahoney has issued a Travel Advisory for Onondaga County until 1:00 PM, Monday, February 13, 2017. This travel advisory does not restrict travel. It is a warning to motorists that hazardous driving conditions may exist throughout the county. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning, which expires on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 1:00 PM. Per the National Weather Service, this Winter Storm Warning means heavy snow and some ice is expected or occurring. Heavy snow and strong winds is occurring across Onondaga County, especially in the Southern half, that will make travel very dangerous.

For the safety of all residents, the general public is encouraged to consider the need to be on the roads during the above time frame and to use extreme caution while traveling in or around Onondaga County.

If you must travel:

  • Travel at reduced speeds to allow for increased reaction time,
  • Allow additional time to reach your destination,
  • Completely clear your vehicle of snow and ice,
  • Move over and slow down when approaching emergency vehicles or tow trucks, and
  • Do not pass snow plows.
