Onondaga County’s COVID-19 Numbers Surge: ‘111 Confirmed Cases’ and ‘Lysander Tailgating’ County Executives Daily Briefing

As of March 26th, there are 111 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Onondaga County representing an overnight increase of 30 people testing positive, 300 mandatory isolation/quarantine. County will now act in cases violating the order against mass gatherings (see image above). Update on localities where COVID -19 is occurring for example: Syracuse has 34 confirmed positives.

As the county appears to be seeing a steady increase, part of the high number may be due to the delay in testing, as people were waiting for results. Out of 675 tests result that’s where those 30 appeared. As of March 26th there’s a 400 test backlog that number will rise as additional tests results are released.

J. Ryan McMahon II County Executive

Reports of people tailgating at the Lysander golf course became the source of the County Executives concern, as he reiterated the public health menace we are facing. In his daily briefing McMahon stated, “We’ve set up an infrastructure with 911.” He continues, “”We never thought we have to give directions for 911 on how they are going to have to implement social distancing bandits out there, breaking laws. It’s different if you’re taking a walk with your significant other or your children… That’s why our Parks Rangers are going to be robustly monitoring our parks system and we’re going to be enforcing.”

In addition, Local Emergency Order No. 6  has been extended

Renewal of Local Emergency Order 6.
