Two days before the seventh Winston Gaskin Community Walk for Wellness & Stroke Prevention, the forecast calls for a partly cloudy beginning to the day. But in case a cloud or two sneaks in earlier than expected with the intent of dispensing a few raindrops, the 100 is advising to dress appropriately. In fact, when you show up to register at 8:30 a.m. at the Onondaga Creekwalk’s Armory Square Trailhead, be sure you’re wearing comfortable shoes, maybe a light jacket or one of those electronic gadgets that count your steps.
Also consider registering in advance by visiting our online registration page. While the walk is not a competitive event (we won’t be keeping times) and is intended to be completed at your own pace, plan on about two hours (more or less) to complete the 5.4-mile route that starts in Armory Square, continues to the base of Onondaga Lake and ends back in the square.
One last tip: Regardless of your pace, be sure to take enough time to fully experience the beauty of Onondaga Creekwalk’s urban landscape, sereneness, birdwatching and proximity to Syracuse’s unique place in history.
