Nestled between several buildings near the intersection of Seneca Turnpike and S. Salina St. is a diner called QD’s. At QD’s people regularly greet each other as regulars come and go a diner that’s become a culinary island in the desert of fast food with few choices. Owned by Quiana Seymour and Dave McSweeney .
Owner Quiana Seymour actually stumbled into the food business, “I moved to Syracuse 7 years ago and was a customer and waited for seven minutes for a cup of coffee at the end of the table. I tried another place and didn’t like their service so I decided I should buy this place and making what it could be.”
After years of remolding and building a clientele QD’s has become a breakfast meeting place where unique diversity of food and customers makes this a Diner in the old style when you became acquainted with fellow regular customers and staff. It took 3 years for Seymour to obtain the property.
Seymour continues, ” I know I could make this what it’s supposed to be and give people a good place to go for breakfast, ‘cuse I love breakfast I’ll eat breakfast all day long. That’s why I serve breakfast right up to 3 p.m. I got in here and I plugged away at it, worked at it and started creating social change within the diversity of the customer base.”
“People responded by coming and they keep coming. Breakfast Monday – Friday until 2 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday until 3 p.m., I also do catering. For catering some of the most popular orders are spinach lasagna, salads, spreads, cookies, homemade mac & cheese, homemade meatloaf, roast turkey, pork loin”
“Some of our biggest sellers for breakfast all day would be our fish and grits meals; our salmon patty meals that come with eggs toast grits salmon patties are very affordable, those types of meals…our French toast our number 2 just flies off the shelves. Our Frettas everybody loves our Fettas! They’re huge. There a lot people who don’t eat pork we have the alternatives. No pork no problem. ”
They will even go through making sure that non-pork products are prepared in different pans using separate utensils in preparation.
QD’s Diner and QD’s Home Cookin’ have created a diner with good food, good service and a loyal diverse clientele it’s shown by the number of regulars greeting each other on any given morning.
