Syracuse, NY— U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today announced details for a virtual workshop on fraud prevention for Central New York seniors.
The workshop will be held via Zoom on October 2, 2020 at 10:30am, and individuals must pre-register. Rep. Katko will be joined by experts from the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department, and Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office. Together they will provide information and resources on how to spot scams and report them. They will also take questions from listeners.
“We’ve seen troubling reports that scammers are continuing to use the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity to exploit members of our community – especially seniors. And as we approach the holiday season, Central New Yorkers are bound to come across these scams more often,” said Rep. Katko. “For this reason, on October 2, 2020 at 10:30am, I’m holding a fraud prevention workshop with experts from the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department, and Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office. This event will serve as an important opportunity for Central New Yorkers to learn how to spot these scams, report them, and speak directly to fraud prevention experts. I encourage Central New York seniors and their families to sign up to learn more about protecting yourself from fraud.”
