Syracuse, N.Y. – At 1:53 A.M., the Syracuse Fire Department was called to 241 Dale Street, between Hillside and Court Streets, for a reported house fire. The first units were on scene in approximately three minutes and found a heavy volume of fire in the rear of the two-story residence.
The lone occupant of the house called 911 after smelling smoke. He was able to escape uninjured prior to the fire department’s arrival. Firefighters encountered zero visibility, thick smoke, and high heat inside the structure. It took approximately thirty minutes to fully extinguish the blaze.
AMR, the Syracuse Police Department, the American Red Cross, and National Grid also responded to the incident. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The outside temperature was 18 degrees at the time the fire was reported. Battling fires during the winter months can be very challenging. Fire pumps and hoses may freeze, and ladders can quickly become coated with ice during firefighting operations. Please make sure that any fire hydrants on or near your property are clear of snow so that crews can quickly access and utilize them.
