Walmart, Amazon, eBay, Sears and Kmart will no longer stock merchandise bearing the Confederate flag after the Charleston church massacre, in a movement that’s snowballed against what many say is a symbol of racism in the American South.
After the shootings at “Mother” Emanuel AME church in Charleston, South Carolina; political leaders, retailers and average citizens have become active opponents to the continued display of the flag that became one of the symbols displayed by shooter, Dylan Roof.
CEO Doug McMillon said in an interview that he was unaware that Walmart carried Confederate flag merchandise. According to McMillon, “We just don’t want to sell products that make anyone feel uncomfortable and we felt like that was the case,” he said. “This was the right thing to do.”
The flag was also a fixture on the popular television series, “Dukes of Hazard” where it was emblazoned on their beloved car, General Lee. TV Land which has been showing re-runs of the show have pulled it off their schedule. Warner Brothers has announced the car with the Confederate flag will no longer be produced.
