Ron Deutsch, Executive Director, New Yorkers for Fiscal Fairness to Speak in Syracuse

Ron Deutsch is the Executive Director of New Yorkers for Fiscal Fairness, a statewide non-profit that focuses on coalition building around issues of fair taxation and economic justice.  He has been an advocate for social and economic justice for the past 20 years in Albany and has worked on many successful campaigns that have closed corporate tax loopholes and instituted higher income tax rates on the wealthiest New Yorkers. NYFF is focused on creating fair tax policy for low and middle-income populations that currently pay higher percentages of their income in taxes than the wealthiest New Yorkers.  Ron will also seek to address the progressivity of our current income tax structure and the growing income inequality in New York State.

New Yorkers for Fiscal Fairness spearheads the GrowingTogetherNY coalition of over 130 community/consumer-based, faith, labor, environmental, human services and other organizations and coalitions representing over one million New Yorkers. We want the Governor and Legislature to balance the state budget in a way that uses existing resources efficiently and raises additional revenues in ways that will not harm our already fragile economy and will create jobs. We further believe that our state must not respond with actions that will further hinder the growth of New York’s economy or hurt the children and families hit hardest by the recession.

What this is about and what you can do:

As you know, Governor Cuomo’s budget perpetuates inequality by giving the wealthiest New Yorkers $2 billion in tax cuts while the people in Syracuse continue to struggle.

One constituency that always gets hit hard is the African American population.  Therefore, we are using this “teach-in” and analysis of the budget to highlight racial justice and how has Albany treated this particular constituency in the past 50 years.

We NEED YOU TO:

  1. Attend the event
  2. Recruit others to the event
  3. Share the attached flyer on your FB page and with your contacts
  4. See if there are other organizations that would co-sponsor- (Think outside the box) – I bet homeless shelters and food pantry’s could use that money more than the wealthiest NY’er’s
