Families at five Syracuse City Schools will have the opportunity to enjoy a free Thanksgiving meal with their children thanks to a sponsorship from UnitedHealthcare.
On Tuesday, November 21st all SCSD students will receive a free Thanksgiving meal including turkey and all the fixings for their last school lunch before Thanksgiving recess. In addition, several schools are inviting families into school that day to enjoy the Thanksgiving meal with their children. At Bellevue, CORE, Syracuse Latin and Van Duyn families are asked to RSVP and will have to pay a small fee of $4.05 per person for their lunch. The menu will include turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, tossed salad, assorted fruit and apple crisp.
Thanks to a partnership with UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, five schools (Seymour, Dr. Weeks, Franklin, Delaware and Dr. King) will receive financial assistance so they may each provide more than 120 free meals to family members, to be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. UnitedHealthcare donated $2,500 which was distributed among the schools and will cover the cost for the first 120 family members in attendance. SCSD students will all receive the Thanksgiving feast at no cost as part of the Community Eligibility Provision, which provides students with free breakfast, lunch and snack each school day.
