Syracuse, N.Y. – At 5:52 pm on Sunday August 2, Syracuse Firefighters battled a fire at 200-202 South Collingwood Avenue. The structure was a large 2 1/2 story wood frame house, with 2 apartments. Firefighters arrived on scene in minutes to find smoke billowing from the eaves of the home. One occupant was home when firefighters arrived. The occupant was alerted of the fire by a passerby who saw smoke coming from the roof area.
Firefighters fought through extreme heat and humidity to extinguish the fire within 20 minutes. The fire originated in the attic area and the cause is still under investigation by Syracuse Fire Investigators. The home had working smoke detectors. The American Red Cross assisted 2 adults and 3 children from the 2nd floor apartment and 1 adult and 1 child who live in the 1st floor apartment.
