SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Mayor Stephanie A. Miner issued the following statement today following the House of Representatives decision to cancel the vote on the repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act.
“Members of Congress have clearly heard the voices of their constituents and removed the
American Healthcare Act from consideration. This destructive bill would have taken away access to healthcare from 24 million Americans, hurting the residents of Syracuse and cities like us across the nation.
“The credit for this action goes to the thousands of Americans who packed auditoriums and gymnasiums for town hall meetings. Thousands more called, wrote, and emailed their representatives. This shows that passionate citizens, when organized around an issue that matters to us all, can make a difference in their democracy. I thank each of them, especially those who were active in our community, for their activism.”
