SYRACUSE, N.Y. – On September 5th, Mayor Stephanie A. Miner issued this statement following Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ announcement that the Trump administration would eliminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which has enabled more than 800,000 young, undocumented people to obtain status in the United States, allowing them to work and pursue higher education.
“The United States is a nation of laws and a nation of compassion. Today’s decision by the Trump administration appears to disregard both of these historic traditions. Turning our backs on the 800,000 young people – many of whom know no other country but ours – will not make America greater, but will rob us of the opportunity to nourish bright young talent, and embrace the diverse tapestry that makes the American experience so vibrant.”
