Albany – Senator John W. Mannion (D-Geddes) today released the following statement on extending the eviction moratorium:
“New York’s eviction moratorium has been in effect for 17 months which far exceeds the state’s emergency declaration. It cannot go on indefinitely and it must end in an orderly and predictable way.
“I supported this extension because it includes new hardship funding and a commitment from the governor to get money into the hands of landlords quickly. The legislation creates stronger landlord protections and allows for new direct access to emergency funds.
“There is money available and free legal assistance. I implore all renters and landlords in Onondaga and Cayuga Counties who are experiencing a hardship to apply for rental assistance immediately.
“The actions taken today, coupled with the measures already enacted by the legislature, afford every tenant and every landlord ample access to resources that will help alleviate financial hardships.”
