Summers Here! City Announces Opening Dates for City Pools

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The City of Syracuse announced plans to open most City pools on Monday, June 30.

“Pools offer a great opportunity for recreation and physical activity during the summer months and the City of Syracuse is proud to have a number of terrific facilities for the community to use,” said Syracuse Mayor Stephanie A. Miner. “We are looking forward to a safe and fun swim season.”

The City of Syracuse has five parks equipped with outdoor pools on track to open on June 30; Burnet, Kirk, Thornden, Wilson, and Schiller. The Lincoln Park pool will open on Tuesday, July 1 due to cleaning. The McKinley Park pool is scheduled to open on July 9. Another pool, located in Onondaga Park, will have its opening delayed due to maintenance issues. Indoor pools in Meachem Park and at Huntington school will be open June 30 as well.

In May, the City of Syracuse appealed to the community for help recruiting lifeguards. That effort was successful and the City will have approximately 120 lifeguards on staff this summer.

Burnet Park Pool
Located at the 300 block of Coleridge Avenue at Burnet Park Drive, the pool at Burnet Park is a 50 meter, eight lane outdoor pool. The water depth ranges from 4 feet to 14 feet. Children must be a minimum* of 4 feet, 4 inches to swim. The pool also has a spray fountain.
2014 Hours:  Long Course Lap Swim:   Monday through Friday, 6:45 to 9:00 am–$3.00 or 1 coupon per visit

Kirk Park Pool 
The pool at Kirk Park, located at 400 West Borden Avenue, is a 25 yard long, nine lane L-shaped outdoor pool, with a wheelchair disabled access ramp and shallow end stair entry. The water depth ranges from 3 feet to 11 feet.  Children must be a minimum* of 3 feet, 4 inches to swim. The pool also has a spray fountain.
2014 Hours:   Public swim from 1:00 to 7:00 pm daily.

Lincoln Park PoolOpening Tuesday, July 1
The Lincoln Park pool is located at 140 Robinson Street at Sherwood Street. It is a 25 yard, six lane outdoor pool. The water depth ranges from 3 feet 6 inches to 12 feet, with a 3 feet 10 inches minimum* height requirement for children. The pool also has a children’s spray fountain.
2014 Hours: Public swim hours will be Monday through Saturday Noon to 6:00 pm and Sunday 1:00 to 5:30 pm

McKinley Park Pool – Scheduled to open on July 9
The pool at McKinley Park is located at the 300 block of West Pleasant Street, one block west of 2300 block of Midland Avenue. It is a 50 meters long, six lane outdoor pool with stairs. The water ranges from 3 feet deep to 7 feet deep; children have a 3 feet 4 inches minimum* height requirement. There is also a children’s spray fountain.
2014 Hours:
  Beginning 6/24/2013 McKinley will have public swim from 1:00 to 7:00 pm daily.

Onondaga Park Pool – Opening delayed due to maintenance issues
Located at 531 Roberts Avenue at Wellesley Road, the pool at Upper Onondaga Park is 50 meter, six lanes L-shaped outdoor pool. The water depth ranges from 3 feet 6 inches to 12 feet.  Children must be a minimum* of 3 feet, 10 inches to swim. The pool also has a children’s spray fountain.
2014 Hours:  Onondaga Pool will have public swim from 1:00 to 7:00 pm daily.

Schiller Park Pool
The pool at Schiller Park, located at 1100 Rugby Road at Oak Street, is a 55 yard long by 25 yard wide, ten lane outdoor pool. There is a 125 foot long shallow end deck top water slide. The water depth ranges from 3 feet 6 inches to 12 feet.  Children must be a minimum of 3 feet, 10 inches to swim. The pool also has spray fountain.
2014 Hours:   Slide closed for the 2014 season
Lesson Hours:   Monday through Friday, 1/2 hour assigned between 11:00 am to 1:00 pm
Public Swim Hours:Public swim from 1:00 to 7:00 pm daily

Thornden Park Pool  –
The pool at Thornden Park is 50 meter long, eight lane outdoor pool. The water depth ranges from 3 feet 6 inches to 7 feet.  Children must be a minimum* of 3 feet 10 inches to swim. The pool also has a children’s spray fountain
2014 Hours:  Long Course Swim Hours:   Monday through Friday: 6:45 to 8: 45 am–$3.00 or 1 coupon per visit  Lesson Hours:   Monday through Friday 1/2 hour assigned between 9:00 am and 11:30 am
Public Swim Hours:   Monday through Saturday is Noon to 7:00 pm and Sunday is 1:00 to 7:00 pm

Wilson Park Pool
The pool at Wilson Park is located at 1117 South McBride Street at Taylor Street. It is a 25 yard long, six lane outdoor pool. The water is 3 feet 6 inches deep.  Children must be a minimum* height of 3 feet 10 inches to swim. The pool also has a children’s spray fountain.
2014 Hours: Public swim – Monday through Saturday – Noon to 6:00pm and Sunday -1:00 to 5:30 pm
