Syracuse, NY. – Students, faculty and staff at Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship
elementary school recently collected over 3,700 diapers to benefit the families at CNY Diaper Bank. The diapers will be donated to CNY Diaper Bank in person on Thursday, May 27th.
“The idea for the Diaper Drive came about after a discussion among several staff members who were looking for innovative ways to give back to the local community that our students would feel passionate about,” said Hayley Merritt, Kindergarten teacher at Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school. “Many students welcomed siblings into the world this year and were excited about helping collect diapers for babies. As a result, our first annual Diaper Drive was launched. We selected the CNY Diaper Bank because of the large scale work they do to aid the community.”
To incentivize students to donate diapers to the Diaper Drive event, students who donated were eligible to participate in a fun ‘Pie in the Face’ activity. Students could choose which Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school staff member they would like to pie in the face.
